Deals with the advantages of grain and cattle, not only for the population but also for the wealth of the State. Dedicated to the Société Economique de Berne, who awarded three times a prize to Bertrand. Jean Bertrand (1708 - 1777) was a Swiss agriculturist, the author of several books, and pastor at Orbe in Switzerland. - With library stamp on fly-leaf of the "Fürstlich-Starhember'sche Familien Bibliothek Schloss Eferding". First edition of this manual on agriculture, dealing with the improving of farmlands, fields for crops and grasslands. Proposing the reducing of the amount of fertilizer and limiting the amount of fallow land. Contains advices to the government, also about the better use of the labor force. Deals with all aspects of agriculture, as they are applicable for France and other countries. The author is very critical about the new methods recently published by the Englishman Jehtro Thull, and those of Duhamel du Monceau and Patullo, as these are not based on the local practice. - Occasionally browned. A nice large-paper copy. |
