First edition of this history of the Macedonian Kings Phillip (reign 359 - 336 BC) and his son Alexander the Great (reign 336 - 323 BC), who conquered many countries and founded the large Macedonian Empire on the Balkan, in Greece, Turkey, Asia Minor, Egypt, Syria, Iran (Persia) and eastwards as far as northern India. The French jurist and historiographer Richard de Bury (Paris 1730 - 1794) was a prolific author. - Copy containing two versions of the pages 393 - 396, the second set is bound at the end; A few leaves slightly foxed.

Niccolo Franco (born 1505 in Benevento) was an Italian poet, whose works are written in a very critical and satirical way. The present book contains 10 dialogues on the gods from antiquity, rhetorica, philosophy, poets from antiquity, navigation, bacchanals, circus, etc. - Purchase entry dated 1635 by Gottfried Eichorn on title; slight waterstain to some leaves.

According to the Backer-Sommervogel the anonymous author of this dissertation was the Jesuit Erasmus Froelich (Graz 1700 - Vienna 1758), teacher at the Jesuit college at Vienna and one of the best numismaticians of his day. Sëbastien Kayser (Vienna 1702 - 1739) was a Jesuit teacher in Vienna and Graz. - Occasionally foxed.

A rich collection of inscriptions and of quotations taken from ancient authors concerning the funeral rites, burial places, etc. of antiquity and especially of the Romans. Johannes Kirchmann (Lübeck 1575-1643), a philologist, was professor of poetry in Rostock and later rector in Lübeck. - Library stamp and name on titles, a tear in text-leaf repaired. Ad II. The Leiden professor Paulus Merula was born 1558 at Dordrecht and died 1607 at Rostock.

Willems No. 731. First edition of this learned biography of Gaius Cilnius Maecenas (65-8 B.C.), the celebrated patron of learning and letters in the time of emperor Augustus, whose friend and adviser he was. He was the protector and benefactor of Horace, Virgil and Propertius. His name lives on in the institution of Maecenas-ship. Joh. Henr. Meibom (Helmstedt 1590-Lübeck 1655), physician at Lübeck, was the author of many esteemed scholarly books. Complete with the errata-leaf, which according to Willems is lacking in most copies. - Title somewhat stained; insignificantly browned.

This history of the lives and amours of the Empresses and consorts to the first 12 Caesars, was first published in 1718 by the French historian Jacques Roergas de Serviez (1679 - 1727).
