ANABAPTISM
info

(Catrou, Fr.). Histoire des Anabaptistes, contenants leur doctrine, les diverses opinions qui les divisent en plusieurs sectes. Amsterdam, J. Desbordes, 1700. With engraved frontispiece and 14 engraved plates. 3 lvs., 280 pp. 8vo. 19th century light brown polished calf, gilt fillet on sides, back gilt in compartments. (# 1395)

EUR 375,-

Barbier II, 740. Hillerbrand No. 2465a. De Backer-Sommervogel II, 882, No. 2. Important source for the history of Anabaptism "depuis l'an 1521 jusques à présent", illustrated with plates mostly showing the tortures suffered by the Anabaptists. According to De Backer-Sommervogel the work is rather a translation of Lambertus Hortensius' work "Tumultuum Anabaptistarum liber unus" (Basel 1548), than an original work by the Jesuit François Catrou (1659-1678). - Slightly waterstained in places, but a good copy.
