Magnificent specimen of this typical Viennese art-product. This kind of greeting cards, all unique pieces, where made as gifts for friends and lovers. From ca. 1815 until 1840 the engraver Joseph Endletsberger and his circle in Vienna, produced this kind of beautiful greeting cards, birthday cards, new-year's cards. These Biedermeier Kunstbillets are known as the aristocrats of the congratulation card. At the time of their production, they were already very expensive, 2 to 5 guilders a piece, which was then a lot of money. As they are made of very fragile material, well preserved cards have become very rare nowadays. Cf. Pazaurek, Biedermeier-Wünsche. - Very well preserved. |
